John retired this past April from AT&T at the early age of 57 and is now in a position to serve the Citizens of Sierra Madre with dedication, enthusiasm and vigor. John is a hard-working, can-do, self-reliant, frugal person and has developed collaboration, communication, leadership and analytical skills that are necessary to ensure that Sierra Madre’s interests are well-served.
John’s service to Sierra Madre includes:
• Former Chairperson on the Parks and Recreation Commission (now Community Services)
• Former Board Member of Sierra Madre Little League
• Former President of Sierra Madre Pony League
• Participation in development of the Youth Master Plan
• Current Board Member of Sierra Madre Community Foundation
John’s goal is to ensure that Sierra Madre remains safe, retains its distinctive character, provides essential city services, and does so in a financially responsible way.
John and his wife Marta moved to Sierra Madre in 1983 and raised their three children, Lauren, Joe, and Susie here. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cal State University, Los Angeles and is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP®). He has held several leadership positions at AT&T, serving his last ten years as a General Manager.
In his spare time, John enjoys running the local trails, including participating in the Mt. Wilson Trail race with his wife Marta. They are very active in the community and enjoy many recreational and cultural events such as the Art Fair, Wisteria Festival and are big fans of the Sierra Madre Playhouse.
